The tension is almost palpable in the first seconds of this amazing YouTube video showing a man being rescued by strangers from the MARTA train tracks in the Five Points Station in downtown Atlanta:

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution says the man was “convulsing from the deadly electric currents.” I can’t actually see the convulsing in the video. And the guy didn’t die. He did get a trip to Grady Memorial Hospital, though.

He also received a visit from the cops.

The AJC quotes the MARTA police report which says witnesses watched the man on the tracks, Wasley Garrett, try to jump to the next platform. He didn’t make it. Garrett was charged with obstructing operations, reckless conduct and public drunkenness. Oddly, the AJC could not reach Garrett for comment.

In addition to needing medical care, I’m sure the young man needed a bath. Those tracks look filthy.
